It was VCDS Lite at $100! It worked beautifully for my needs. But, like many I do watch my expenses so I wanted the most inexpensive option. But, they don't have any of the necessary capabilities to work on a VW.įortunately, I came to this forum and learned about VCDS.

I have other software to read scan codes (ProScan, Torque) and these work fine for our non-VW vehicles. But, being that this was my first diesel vehicle I still had a fair learning curve. I have always done all my own engine work and this vehilce was no different. I usually don't add to these types of threads but here it goes.

So I have both, I use both and I love and appreciate both (I would have excuted it differntly, having a rolling 10 vehicles in a certain timeframe or something) but thats neither here nor there.

I don't like that their mobile device has to link to their mothership for authentication, and that you are limited to 10 vehciles for the enthusisest version. What they do offer, I disagree with the execution of. Wouild I buy it if Ross-Tech made the same product? Nope, I would buy the Ross product. 90% of what I need, I can use the tool for. It can read DSG temperature, cycle fuel pumps, read codes, and measuring blocks. Its portable, handheld, frequently updated, requires no battery or power supply Now, this said, I also own a Chinese tool. I mean would you go complain that Wal-Mart is charging 15 dollars for a Blu-Ray disk that cost them 10 cents to make? Or that Microsoft is charging $400.00 for office that cost the < 1 cent to digtally transmit to you? Or a 20 dollar book from Amazon is 30 cents of paper? Of course not. I dont buy the argument that it only takes a few bucks to make the cable. I own a VCDS cable (real deal from Ross-Tech) I appreciate their product and the time it goes into producing the product. Just my two cents and what I do for what its worth. Join our forum and use the information provided by Ross-Tech and the community of users with that other tool you choose.

In the US and Canada, more than 2/3 of our customers are enthusiasts like you. Someone mentioned that the bulk of our customers are probably professionals. Still we give forum and email support to registered users for free. Tech support of those working on cars using our tool costs and yes, we now have to charge a fee for live vehicle specific phone support. People need to eat and house their families. We have people who do real research with tools we have developed such that we can know what the VAG engineers have done in the vehicles. Many think that Ross-Tech gets handed information by VAG. The research we do to get the information on all the models has to be done by data mining. We do have costs that are far higher than the costs of those that steal our work. We do not like to enter into these kinds of debates.
